What IS the Value of Working With a Life Coach?

There is nothing better than having someone who understands you and can help motivate you and keep you accountable for the things you want in your life (even when life might get hard and you can’t remember why you wanted to do something in the first place). A great life coach is someone who can see your wants and needs beyond you and help you figure out how to get from point A to point B.

So, what is the value of working with a life coach? If you asked someone a few years ago if it was valuable to work with a life coach, they might look at you strangely and not even know what you are talking about. You see, life coaches have been around for a long time, but the importance and value of them haven’t been given the moment that they deserved till now. We all understand the importance of a financial “coach” or advisor. They charge you money to effectively make more money over time. It can be a quantifiable moment where you can see year over year if your investment feels like it is worth it when working with a financial advisor. When working with a life coach, though, you’re working far outside the scope of mere money. You are talking about happiness, life goals being achieved, dreams being met, and creating long relationships in your life.

So let’s break down the “value” of a life coach.

  1. Priorities and Goals

When you work with a life coach, they will help you set priorities and goals that work best for you, your life, and your personality. A life coach can guide you in putting your most important priorities first. This can be anything from the world’s systems and processes that seem like they are against you or the thoughts in your mind that hold you back.

We’ve talked many times about how making lists and priorities are so important when working with a life coach. These things can help you get organized, and your coach will help you figure out ways to frame your process in realistic and achievable ways specifically for you. Everybody is different, so there is no magic formula to follow – that’s why a life coach is so essential in helping you set priorities and achieve goals because they can help you set up a customized plan for you and your personality.

  1. Accountability

We all have dreams, goals, and milestones that we would like to achieve in our life. The part that separates those who commit to those things and those who don’t is accountability. When we have a dream that we want to achieve, why are we afraid to tell those around us? For a big part of us, it’s because we are now accountable to those people as soon as we tell them about that goal. They might ask us how our plan is coming along, and that can be scary if we aren’t sure that we can achieve those dreams. Working with a life coach is someone who can keep you accountable for hitting your goals while also guiding you on the steps and maybe even side steps that can get you there. No one wants to get to the end of their life and wish that they had worked harder on specific aspects of their dreams or development; working with a life coach can help you feel a higher level of satisfaction in developing your goals and executing them.

  1. Pushing past limiting beliefs and unproductive strategies

We talked about keeping yourself accountable to help you navigate your life, but another way a life coach is of value is that they help you push past limiting beliefs and unproductive strategies.

We all have a habit or specific thinking that we don’t realize is holding us back. Coaching helps you identify these habits, and then we help you find a better way for you to re-frame your way of thinking.

We all have specific ways of working that we just do out of habit but might not benefit us to the highest degree. Working with a coach helps you unlearn these and develop better strategies that work specifically for your personality and life situation.

Once you remove what beliefs and strategies aren’t working in your life, you’ll be able to focus on where you want to be and have a solid chance of getting there.

How much value you find in working with a life coach equates to how much time and effort you put into working with one and if you’re taking actionable steps to move forward; however, that looks for you.
